One of the most visited tourist attractions of Denia is the castillo (castle). The castle built in the 11th and 12th century offers a wonderful view around the sea, the city and the backlands. Within the castle you will find the Palau del Governador with its museum.

Musea

Along with the other interesting museums in Denia, the Museo Etnologico will give you further details on the rich history and culture of Denia. You should also do some shopping along the main road of Calle de Marques de Campo. Along with some Denia hotels, you will find many bars and little restaurants.Make sure you test some of the excellent cakes and sweets of local confectionery and bakery shops, Denia is famous for them.

For sightseeing head up to the town hall (ayuntamiento) building from Marques de Campo and visit the Iglesia de la Asuncion church with its fine dome. Then continue up the steps following the signs for the castle which overlooks Denia Bay.

 Denia Castle

The castle closes for lunch between: 1pm and 3pm from October to March, 1.30pm and 3.30pm in April and May, 1.30pm and 4pm in June and September and between 1.30pm and 5pm in July and August. All the old houses that surround the base of the castle have been nicely painted in different colours adding to what is already a rather atmospheric place to wander around.

Denia port

From the castle make your way to El Port which consists of a line of attractive restaurants facing the port area. Most of them tend to specialise in local rice based dishes as well as Fideua which is a noodle based paella. Often paella recipes  allow for large quantities of meat and seafood. Don't expect too many ingredients in these dishes in the local restaurants here, because for the locals it is the rice or noodles which are key to the dish.

If you plan to spend your holidays in or around the Denia area, make sure you get a boat round trip to Javea, Altea and Benidorm or rent a car.

Transport

Local transport by bus or train is available, but if you want to see some of the beautiful places around the Costa Blanca, you really want to have a car. Denia car hire companies offer car pick up and drop at Alicante airport which you would like to have.

Booking your hotel or apartment for your holidays zou should check the internet before you plan to see the area. It is not advisable to come to Denia during the summer period, without a car reservation in hand.
