1. Moraira
(Moraira/Moraira)

Moraira Coastline
Moraira Coastline
Moraira is a small coastal town in the La Marina Alta district lying 80km north of the city of Alicante and 100km south of Valencia. Moraira remains one of the most unspoilt resorts on the Costa Blanca, with 8km of beautiful coastline backed by mountains, and a permanent population of only 9,500, although this rises to 30,000 in summer.

This old fishing town with the Mediterranean Sea stretched out at its feet and a beautiful mountain range covering its back maintains an average temperature of about 18 degrees. Thanks to its tourism, this town has known how to mix all the necessary and modern services into its typical fishing port ambience. Proof of this is the magnificent fish auction that is held from Tuesday to Sunday in the Lonja (public exchange market) right in the port area.

There is a high proportion of expats living here on a permanent basis, and the area is very popular with retirees.

Nestled between Denia, Calpe and Altea, Moraira is a tranquil town on the Costa Blanca with an important active tourist community, both those living there all year round as well as those who either just visiting it once or coming back every summer holiday.

Moraira’s roots as a fishing village have not changed much, and today the fishermen still go out in the early hours each day, bringing back a fresh catch which is sold by auction at the traditional fish market, one of the most popular in the Costa Blanca region. Moraira is also famous for the growing of Muscatel grapes for wine making.

If you are lucky to be there in July, the Patron Saint is the Virgin of the Unsheltered and the Virgin of Carmen who is said to protect the sailors and fishermen. There is a beautiful parade and fireworks and a water procession with the statue of the Virgin floating among endless bouquets of flowers. Quite a scene to be seen!<><><>

Built in 1985, the Moraira Club Náutico has become one of the main nautical attractions of the Valencian Community and was one of the first to achieve the Blue Flag distinction for the cleanest shorelines in Europe.

3. Denia old town
(Denia/Denia)

One of the most visited tourist attractions of Denia is the castillo (castle). The castle built in the 11th and 12th century offers a wonderful view around the sea, the city and the backlands. Within the castle you will find the Palau del Governador with its museum.

Musea

Along with the other interesting museums in Denia, the Museo Etnologico will give you further details on the rich history and culture of Denia. You should also do some shopping along the main road of Calle de Marques de Campo. Along with some Denia hotels, you will find many bars and little restaurants.Make sure you test some of the excellent cakes and sweets of local confectionery and bakery shops, Denia is famous for them.

For sightseeing head up to the town hall (ayuntamiento) building from Marques de Campo and visit the Iglesia de la Asuncion church with its fine dome. Then continue up the steps following the signs for the castle which overlooks Denia Bay.

4. Ferry from Denia to Ibiza and Mallorca
(Denia/Denia)

Ferry from Denia to Ibiza

There are daily Denia to Ibiza Ferry services (you can see Ibiza on a clear day) and Mallorca.
There are also full and half day mini cruise options along the coast which visit other resorts including Javea, Calpe and Altea.

The ferry terminal in the town centre lies only about 300m from the town's train station which is convenient for services south to Alicante (if you're headed north to Valencia you'll need to take a bus to Gandia and catch the train there).

5. Denia
(Denia/Denia)

Denia

The long beach of Denia
The long beach of Denia
Denia lies some 7km north of Javea along a spectacular winding mountain road watched over by Montgo Mountain. It is an attractive resort with a fascinating old town, fine restaurants and magnificent beaches stretching for many kilometers to the north.

On arrival from Javea you'll first come to a pretty little beach just before the marina on your right then an area of high rise apartments appears.

Denia Harbor

With about 29 000 habitants, Denia does not only make their living from tourism. It possesses one of the most important harbors of the area, with ferry connections to Ibiza, Mallorca and others. This and the huge fishing fleet have made Denia a very prosperous city over the past years

6. Bulls in the sea in Javea
(Javea/Javea)

ImageIn Javea the main festival takes place during the last week of August and the first week of September in the port area of the town and is in honour of Our Lady of Loreto.

Rather than set up a temporary bullring and have bullfights as is the case in the majority of national village fiestas, Javea provides quite a divergence from the theme called Bous a la Mar (Bulls to the Sea).

7. Fiestas in Javea
(Javea/Javea)

Fiestas in Javea
Fiestas in Javea
Jávea / Xàbia offers a wide range of celebrations rooted in the maritime and obviously Mediterranean traditions of its people: the chief protagonists in whatever festivals take place throughout the year. Religious and pagan festivals thread through the festive calendar with one common denominator: the participation of the people.

Xàbia misses no opportunity to display the open and extrovert character of its inhabitants. If the carnival and the “Enfarinà” anticipate the celebrations, the summer is announced by the “Fogueres de Sant Joan”, a festivity rooted in the Mediterranean like no other, which in Jávea / Xàbia still retains its magic and ancestral meaning.

8. Culinary Javea
(Javea/Javea)

Culinary Javea
Culinary Javea
Jávea has many restaurants where one can try international cuisine as well as local dishes. Our town has a rich culinary tradition which has been entirely preserved and which can be sampled, in the form of "Tapas", in most bars of the town.

Since it is a coastal town, fish and shellfish dishes prevail. Try the delicious fish stews "cruet de peix" and "suc roig", or fried dishes such as "peix fregit". Also typical are fresh salted anchovies, tuna and the tasty "borreta de melva" as well as Xàbia´s delicacy "bogamarins" (sea urchins).
